I seriously am having a hard time understanding the weather in Denmark. Three days ago, on Thursday, we had a big storm, Friday was cloudy but then Saturday was beautiful and sunny, it took us all by surprise so no body stayed in the dorm, we all went out. Looking at the clear sky and a sunny day, you would think that the temperature is high but no way, it was freezing cold and windy outside. (Poor me, because I decided to leave my coat and go out with only a small jacket, a very bad decision indeed).
Anyhow, my best friend and I went to see the little mermaid, which is one of the famous monuments in Denmark. All the tourists come here to see it. We saw the mermaid and read the history from the tourist’s booklet (which my friend got from her dad, before coming here).
Den Lille Havfrue (The Little Mermaid) statue is only a 3-minute walk from Kastellet fortress in Copenhagen. It is the most visited sites by the tourists. At less than five feet tall, the statue is much smaller than most people expect, and she sits on a rock near the shore. Hans Christian Andersen wrote "The Little Mermaid" fairy tale in 1837, and in 1909 the founder of Carlsberg Breweries, who was fascinated by the story, had the statue built. It is considered one of the symbols of Copenhagen city.
There are 750-800 of us American students in Copenhagen city this semester and each of us is excited to meet Danish people. I actually had a deep conversation with a Danish girl in my way back home tonight. She was fluent in English, Danish and Swedish (which is quiet normal in Denmark). We exchanged numbers so I now officially have a Danish buddy who I can hang out with for the rest of my semester in Denmark, Yay…….
